TOKYO SUNRISE

Named after a song "Tokyo Sunrise" by LP, this is a photo essay reflecting on a meaning of Sakura blossom season, or Hanami as it's known in Japan.

Hanami is a traditional Japanese custom of viewing cherry blossoms when they are in full bloom. This tradition unites family members, friends, or colleagues who gather together to eat, drink, talk and celebrate the beauty of the Sakura season. People organise picnics under cherry trees, go out in restaurants and bars, enjoy street foods, visit shrines and temples, and enjoy outdoor performances.

Photographed during April 2017 in Tokyo and Kyoto.
